Transport in Athens
Using a taxi is cheap in Athens, but tourists are sometimes overcharged. Use Uber app to get your taxi and pay via the app, so you get the normal price. Using the metro is easy and it won’t be all Greek to you as there are signs also in English. There are only 3 lines it is very easy to get by. A 90-minut ticket costs about 1.30 Eur and it is valid for all means of transportation, metro (blue and red line), the electric overground train (green line) and busses and trams. The best way to get from the airport to a city centre, Syntagma square, is by metro (blue line), the ticket costs 10 Eur and the journey takes 40 minutes.
To be aware of when on stag do in Athens
Athens city center is a safe area, with police on watch on Fridays and Saturdays nights, but as in other European capitals you need to be aware of pickpockets and vendors on Monastiraki square. Pickpocketing is quite often also on public transportation, especially the route Airport - City centre. Some areas of Athens are considered to be less safe, for example Exarchea, Omonia square, Metaxourgio area, especially in the night. You can exchange money either at your hotel or in one of exchange places around Syntagma and Monastiraki square. Do not exchange on the street.
